An Afternoon at Antelope Island

Antelope Island is just an hour north of Salt Lake City. However it is a different world.

When I was talking to the Park Ranger at the Visitor centre, I learned that the whole island was caught off for ten years(1981-1990) as the long causeway you use to drive in was washed away and their wasn’t the money at that time to fix it. There is loads to check out, admittedly this would be more fun in the summer, the views would be a bit better and it would’ve been warmer.

However I liked the contrast of the snow and tried for some fun photographs. My luck and light held out while travelling on the island. During my visit it was possible to get shots of Antelope, coyote, rabbits, a variety of birds, buffalo, and some nice landscape scenes. I travelled light with my F-stop Loka Pack and was able to spend four hours travelling to a number of different locations on the island.
One place that was great to Visit was Fielding Garr Ranch. it was a fair drive as the light was fading, the snow was getting heavier. It was however worth the visit. It was from the times of early mormon settlers and set up on one of the best springs on Antelope island. If you head out that way it is a great place to stop off at.
