A beautiful morning in the Comox Valley
Waking to find it was a beautiful morning, and knowing that it has been typically clouding over in the afternoon, decided to head for a morning jaunt to Lake Helen McKenzie. Loading up the car with snowshoes, ski poles, boots, backpack with shovel, headlamp, jacket, fleece, snacks, first aid, tea and water and my little S90 i was off for a morning and early afternoon adventure.

Long shadows, Paradise Medows, Comox Valley
The drive up to the mountain was great, the road was fairly clear. Past a number of snowmobilers that were heading out and some backcountry skiers were heading out into the hills. The weather was great and after getting changed into some comfortable backcountry wear I headed off to the Lake. Early season snowshoeing is always a bit more work as there tends to be lots of fresh snow on the trails.
The nice thing about doing this walk is the amount of interesting photos that can be found in the sea of trees and shadows that abound through out the walk. I particularly like the parrot that popped up around 11am.

Snowy Parrot
The other thing with no one around it was amazingly silent, except for the noises of my pack and the crunch of snow underfoot and the wind whistling through the trees. Another great thing about the Comox Valley. Pop over here to have a read of Zac Whytes blog on some very interesting points on the way development is happening within the Comox Valley.
