George Sawchuck’s Forest

Into the Light
Went out a little while back with a friend to shoot some photos in the Enchanted forest. This place has a very interesting history. George Sawchuck created these trails and artworks that abound in the forest over almost 30 years, first starting when he moved to Fanny Bay in 1979. They have seen their fair share of hard ships from winter storms to the Government in 1997 trying to get them removed.

Water by the cupful - At a cost
The Quote at the top of his website says “I Cannot speak for us all, but it seems to me that there comes a time in every life when one must step out of the traces of commercialism and then, without too much preparation or direction, be set loose. For me that time came early, unexpectedly, and was not entirely of my own making.

Wheel and Light
Some of the pieces are memorials to fellow labourers and artists; others are statements on humanity’s dependency on oil, water and religion. There is some interesting Iconography, some beauty, dichotomy, controversy, thought provoking work. There is also some great music that plays as you wander through the woods. Makes for a pleasant afternoon.

It is worth checking out these two sites one about George Sawchuck and the other on the history of his artwork
Here is a map to get to this location. This map is not exact, but more approximate.
