About Dave

Dave Prothero has been taking photos for the past 15 years. Dave first picked up a camera in Canmore, AB when he was on an 3 month outdoor course. From there he travelled to Nepal for 2 months, after a season of commercial fishing off the West Coast of BC.

From there he continued with his travelling. Working and moving through numerous countries and doing slideshows for high school tourism classes in the Comox Valley, which provided an interesting look and basis into the photography world.

Since then, Dave has rescearched and increased his photography view point and refined his style. Here you will find stories about some of that work.

Working as a Guide, Kayaker and Photographer, amongst other professions, has provided Dave with the opportunity to travel and photograph through twenty five countries on six continents. During which time he has seen and photographed many interesting and unique locations.

Fishing spot

Fishing

This is a shot from a while back of a Shayne fishing on a trip to the Okisollo Rapids at the top of Quadra Island. A very beautiful spot, it was at a point of relaxation in between surfs of the tidal rapid.

Capoeria – Human Form

Capoeria

Humans are amazing. We walk, run, jump, climb, twist, contort our form through out our day. Recently, I had the opportunity to photograph a group of people very adapt at putting their bodies into some amazing positions. This was a group of capoeiristas from Axe Capoeria Comox Valley.

When we set up the shoot it was raining out, so we set up inside at the Comox Rec Centre. It was a good experience to try and get some different images. I wanted to get some images that showcased the form, strength and focus

There was some trial and error, working some of the forms and getting the artists to hold them. The Capoeriaistas were excellent for photographing.

Liked the look of the images in Black and White, which was set when during the processing of them. I liked the look it presented.

nice photos of the capoeira. Interested in seeing some of my girls (the two blonde ones) with the white back drop.

Cheap Shoes and Breakfast

Blueberry Hill

Remember those old diners, the one’s with the long counter’s and the booths. Scenes from old movies, thick pancakes, bottle of syrup, loads of butter, homey atmosphere. Well this place is all that.

Erin and myself were down in Las Vegas, this morning we were checking out the worlds largest Skechers shoe outlet before heading off to The Gun Store. However being hungry we saw this place and decided to check it out. The staff were great and the food was good. It has some very interesting items on the menu as well. Check out the sinful delights for some decedent eating.

I was able to get some different shots from the interior and of the food. Worth checking out if you are down in Las Vegas.
